What are PDO Threads?

Polydioxanone (PDO) threads are specially designed medical-grade strands of protein, often used as dissolvable surgical sutures, so they do not cause allergies or health issues. These thin threads, leaner than a strand of hair, are safe for insertion under layers of the skin and used to provide minimally invasive and non-surgical cosmetic treatments. Are there different kinds of PDO threads?

PDO threads come in 3 primary varieties, barbed, smooth, and twisted. Each variety is ideal for use in specific areas of the face and body to lift, tighten, or plump the skin gently. All three varieties stimulate hyaluronic acid, elastin, and collagen production in the skin. 

 

What is the Procedure?

  1. We clean and apply topical numbing to the target area and directly mark the planned thread insertion diagram on your body. This ensures we have a clear and precise map for the placement of your threads to maximize your results.

  2. Once topical numbing sets in, we administer precise lidocaine injections to further numb the insertion points. The tiny pinches you may experience are the only discomfort you should feel throughout the procedure.

  3. After the channels are created, the threads are inserted under the skin, and the needle or cannula is slowly withdrawn.

  4. Finally, threads are gently adjusted into their optimal position and the excess trimmed away.

What is the Recovery Time?

Often called the “Lunchtime Lift”, many patients can return to work right away with no downtime. You may experience a small amount of bruising at the insertion site and minimal discomfort easily treated with over-the-counter Tylenol (not ibuprofen)

 

How Long Do Results Last?
